Train or Flight? Comparing China Travel Days

Compare the whole journey from your hotel door to the next hotel. The timetable alone does not show the true cost in time and effort.

Count every segment

Include the journey to the station or airport, the required arrival buffer, the trip itself and onward transfer. A fast flight can involve long airport approaches; a convenient train may leave from a station far outside the center.

Match the mode to the route

Rail is especially useful when the actual connection is direct and stations fit your itinerary. Flights can be valuable over longer distances or when rail would consume most of a day. Use current schedules for the specific cities before deciding.

Luggage and comfort

Consider how easily your group can lift and move its bags, manage platforms and find seats. Reserve enough time for travelers who need a slower pace. Do not plan essential sightseeing immediately after the published arrival time.

Protect the final connection

For an international departure, build a conservative buffer and consider staying in the departure city the night before. A separately booked domestic trip and an international ticket may not provide a protected connection.

Put the idea into your journey

Use this chapter to set priorities before choosing dates, hotels and transfers. Explore the related destination and compare a sample itinerary; then ask for a route that reflects your interests and comfortable pace.
