The route at a glance
Begin beside the Huanghuacheng reservoir, camp near the Wall, then turn to Jiankou and Mutianyu for a very different second day.
Operated by Great Wall Adventure Club. This route is presented as part of China Travel Collection’s specialist Great Wall selection.

Walking level & suitability
The second day is notably more strenuous than the first. It is best for guests ready for Jiankou’s rough ground.
Detailed itinerary
Leave Beijing: Travel to the reservoir-side Wall at Huanghuacheng. Lakeside hike: Climb above the water and follow a section of the ridge. Settle camp: Reach the approved overnight site with time to prepare before dark. Dinner and evening: Eat locally and enjoy the quiet Wall setting.
Sunrise and breakfast: Watch the light over the lake, eat and pack. Jiankou transfer: Drive to the mountain trailhead. Wild-to-restored hike: Follow a safe Jiankou route into Mutianyu’s rebuilt Wall. Return: Descend and drive back to Beijing.
Plan the practical details
Confirm the permitted overnight location, tents, sleeping bags, pads, meals, toilet arrangements and weather alternative in your written proposal. The actual sleeping location may be a designated area near the Wall; do not infer permission to camp anywhere from a route photograph.
Arrange storage for your main luggage with the route team. Carry a small daypack with water, suitable layers and personal essentials. Confirm whether bags travel by vehicle between overnight stops.
